CEE Newsletter - January 2024 Issue Now Available!

We're excited to announce the release of the January 2024 issue of the CEE Newsletter! This edition is filled with captivating stories, community highlights, and collaborative achievements from across Central and Eastern Europe region in the Wikimedia movement.

IMPORTANT: Admin activity review

Hello. A policy regarding the removal of "advanced rights" (administrator, bureaucrat, interface administrator, etc.) was adopted by global community consensus in 2013. According to this policy, the stewards are reviewing administrators' activity on all Wikimedia Foundation wikis with no inactivity policy. To the best of our knowledge, your wiki does not have a formal process for removing "advanced rights" from inactive accounts. This means that the stewards will take care of this according to the admin activity review.

We have determined that the following users meet the inactivity criteria (no edits and no logged actions for more than 2 years):

  1. Регион102 (administrator)

These users will receive a notification soon, asking them to start a community discussion if they want to retain some or all of their rights. If the users do not respond, then their advanced rights will be removed by the stewards.

However, if you as a community would like to create your own activity review process superseding the global one, want to make another decision about these inactive rights holders, or already have a policy that we missed, then please notify the stewards on Meta-Wiki so that we know not to proceed with the rights review on your wiki.

Invitation to participate in the #WPWPCampaign 2024

Dear community members,

We are inviting you to participate in the Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos 2024 campaign, a global contest scheduled to run from July through August 2024:

Participants will choose among Wikipedia pages without photo images, then add a suitable file from among the many thousands of photos in the Wikimedia Commons, especially those uploaded from thematic contests (Wiki Loves Africa, Wiki Loves Earth, Wiki Loves Folklore, etc.) over the years.

In its first year (2020), 36 Wikimedia communities in 27 countries joined the campaign. Events relating to the campaign included training organized by at least 18 Wikimedia communities in 14 countries.

The campaign resulted in the addition of media files (photos, audios and videos) to more than 90,000 Wikipedia articles in 272 languages.

Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos (WPWP) offers an ideal task for recruiting and guiding new editors through the steps of adding content to existing pages. Besides individual participation, the WPWP campaign can be used by user groups and chapters to organize editing workshops and edit-a-thons.

The organizing team is looking for a contact person to coordinate WPWP participation your language Wikipedia. We’d be glad for you to sign up directly at WPWP Participating Communities page on Meta-Wiki.

Turkic Wikimedia Conference 2024

Turkic Wikimedia Conference 2024 быйыл, 2024 йылда, Истанбулда 21-22 сентябрҙә була. 15 июнгә тиклем вәкилдәр теркәү үтергә тейеш. Сәләмәтлегем етһә, ҡаршылар булмаһа, Истанбул конференцияһына мин барып ҡайтыр инем. Икенсе вәкилде лә күрһәтегеҙ.

  • Akkashka, Башкортостан юзер төркеме былтыргы отчетын 30 апрельга кадәр тутырмаган (җитмәсә Bashkortostan UG-дан бөтен тавыш бирүчеләрне дә акыллы башлар чыгарып аткан, отчет тутырырга кеше дә калмаган), шуңа күрә аларга урыннар юк дип куйганнар. Соңрак тутырсалар бүленәме дигәнгә шундый җавап килде (русчасын бирәм):

    Здравствуй, Ильнур,

    Каждое региональное объединение имеет право направить двух делегатов на конференцию Викимедиа в Центральной и Восточной Европе.

    Я хотел бы отметить, что Bashkortostan UG не может направить делегатов на конференцию, поскольку они не представили годовой отчет и потеряли это право в соответствии с критериями конференции.

    Однако есть шанс отправить на встречу больше людей. Для этого люди, желающие посетить конференцию, должны подать заявки на участие в программе. Если Программный комитет примет их заявку и решит пригласить их в качестве докладчиков, мы сможем предоставить этим людям стипендии для участия.
